Scientists Mocked For Wasting Time Understanding Thing Instead of Fixing Thing They Don't Understand
TOWN SQUARE, USA—Facing mounting criticism from anonymous social media accounts, researchers across the country were mocked online this week for wasting valuable time trying to understand how cellular processes work instead of simply curing cancer without understanding how cellular processes work.
“They’ve been studying cancer for 50 years and haven’t cured it yet,” wrote Twitter user @PatriotScience1776, who has not cured cancer in any amount of time. “What exactly are we paying for?”
The criticism reflects a growing consensus among accounts with profile pictures of bald eagles and the Punisher logo that scientists should simply cure diseases rather than study them.
“Just cure it,” wrote @FreedomLabBeagle, whose bio reads “Fighting animal torture and the science cartel.” “How hard can it be?”
The accounts, many of which were created in the last six months, expressed frustration that researchers continue to study diseases rather than skipping directly to the part where the disease is cured.
When an actual researcher attempted to explain that understanding signaling pathways had directly led to drugs like Herceptin and Gleevec, @DrainTheLabSwamp responded: “Cope.”
At press time, many cancers remained uncured.
